Unauthorized Biography Unleashed

Ian Halperin’s new book, Michael Jackson Unmasked, makes outrageous claims, the foremost being that the star was a gay cross-dresser. The book hit shelves nearly three weeks after King of Pop’s mysterious death. Co-author of Who Killed Kurt Cobain, Halperin calls his Jackson book an unauthorized biography; however it only spans the last fifteen years of Jackson’s life. The book format reads like a redundant stack of tabloid articles, and comes from an author who admittedly only met Michael Jackson once—while masquerading as a hairdresser.

The Canadian investigative reporter claims that his book will paint the real picture of Michael Jackson’s final years, but he garnered the bulk of his information through hearsay. He states in an interview that mainstream media is out of the loop on his facts because anyone close to Michael Jackson had to sign confidentiality agreements. Ironically, he claims that his woman friend worked in Jackson’s camp, and leaked him the information until she was fired for associating with him.

Ian Halperin, who claims to have predicted six months ago that Michael wouldn’t live to perform his comeback tour, had attempted publish the book to coincide with the tour—in case Michael lived I guess—but wound up adding a final death chapter to it when Michael was pronounced dead June 25, 2009.

Halperin had set out to prove that Michael Jackson was indeed a child molester, but his research into Jackson’s life, and his analysis of the child molestation trial proved to him that Michael Jackson would never harm or molest a child. The book contains adequate molestation trial coverage, and might to help undecided reader better discern Jackson’s innocence or guilt; however, the other information contained therein might be enough to make a reader discredit the whole manuscript. Though Halperin appears to have gleaned the same truth that twelve jurors had about Michael Jackson’s innocence in the child molestation trial, Ian Halperin proclaims that Jackson was something else entirely:, a gay cross-dresser.

Boy Behind the Mask Robert Rizzato

Michael Jackson was Gay?

Ian Halperin purports the discovery of at least eight of Michael Jackson’s male lovers, but he could only corroborate the stories of two men. He says that he has photographs of Michael Jackson dressed as a woman. He plans to publish them in a film he intends to release to make the one-year anniversary of Jackson’s death. If he has such pictures, it is peculiar that no other journalist in the world has ever gotten a hold of them, too.

The Michael Jackson Unmasked book tells fantastical other tales as well. It theorizes that the Church of Scientology orchestrated the Jackson/Presley marriage, and asserts that Michael was so destitute after the molestation trial, that he had to sleep in the basements of his friends’ homes. If you want to read the part about Michael Jackson being gay, skip to page 145, but a fellow reviewer warns that there is little corroboration.

Buy the book at your own risk. It adds no new knowledge to the well-versed Jackson fans, but it can be dangerous in the hands of those who have not followed Jackson closely over the years. Michael Jackson Unmasked retails for $25.00, but Amazon has already marked it down to $13.75. You can the Kindle version for $9.99.

Pop Intervention Question of the Day:

I must admit, I'm not a fan of this book, and I'm skeptical of it, though I haven't even read it. Michael Jackson Unmasked sounds like it has some shady sources and facts. But, you tell me what you think.

Have you read this book? If so, what are your impressions of it? Would you recommend it?

Nobody outside MJ circle really knows the truth. So what's your opinion about Halperin?

Buy it and choose whether to believe every word that he says.

it's o.k. i wont buy it...... but accuse him of it he has probably done it..... had to find something to entertain himself, couldn't really go outside his house without being mobbed..... I am beginning to be glad I am not famous, horrible to you when you are alive horrible to you when you are dead.... wow, why don't people just mind their own business........ rant over....

@metaphysician. I tend not to believe most things I read about Michael Jackson. And this time, I'm even more skeptical because other news sources never reported these things--to my knowledge. Michael was tortured by the news, so I'm sure they would have reported this had it been true.

@Brenda, I told my boyfriend last night that I was going to start burning stuff so that people will have nothing to rifle through after I'm dead.

I am reading the book and must say, I can only read it as a work of historic fiction. There are just too many things, stated as fact, that are too outrageous to be believed. First, he said that Jackson could not walk because of a disease that he had. How was he doing all of that dancing practicing for the upcoming tour that was planned? He claims that Micheal was dying from a fatal disease and would be dead in about 6 months. Unless the disease was drug addiction, I don't know what he was talking about. It can also be arrested. The author found that he used to date a gal that was on staff and was fired after they knew they were friends. Why did it matter who her friends were if she did her job? Was Michael afraid of the writer? The writer speaks of posing as a reporter to get close to Michael and what was going on around him. This almost sounds like a fantasy or something you would watch on a sitcom.

The sources are very vague. The names of most of his sources have to be kept secret. That leaves much grey area to blame anything that is not factual onto a person whose identity cannot be divulged. I find the book very sketchy because there seems to be little to base the given information on.

Thanks Ashtar, that's excellent feedback to let people know if the book holds value. Thanks for taking the time to write that out. I'm confused about the writer, too, because he said that he knew all the A-list stars, but then when he met Michael Jackson, he claimed that he was too star-struck to ask him any questions...

well to me it seems like the vulture's are coming out picking the meat off the bones of a dead man.it really doesn't matter whether the book is true or not.Michael Jackson is dead and gone, living in a better place now.while the news and the entertainment shows hold on to his image refusing to let it go milking every bit of the ratings out of his name trying to make as much money as the can off the most famous man that has every live.pop out magazines left and right because they know that it doesn't matter what it is put michael jackson name and face on it,and the whole world is going to buy it.The guy that wrote the book about michael jackson is the scum of the earth,a predator trying to make a buck off the coat tails of a dead-man.and he better save every penny that he makes off of that book.because he will never have a real writing career.the media has shown to the world exactly how artificial, and trivial they have become.Ed Mcmahon,Steve Mcnair, farrah fawcett, david caradine, walter cronkite, billy mays, all of these people have passed on to a better world.but the media concentrates on michael jackson because of money,a chance to get sky high ratings, make more advertising dollars, the media and vultures from everywhere are coming out of the wood work every body trying to make a buck off a dead man.only in a america.

Walter died? See, you wouldn't even have known...

This guy is a nut case. Do you really think now that Michael Jackson is dead that these idiots won't come out of everywhere to try to make a story that will sell their trash. Michael was a guy who gave everything of himself to help everyone in the world needing help. Did Halperin put that in his book? Maybe he, or anyone else wanting to trash Michael Jackson should go to http://www.jacksonaction.com/?page=charity.htm. If the bookstores have already dropped the price of his book to $13.75 should just save themselves the space on the shelf and put it on the close-out bin for $.99. Maybe someone hard up for paper for their fireplace would buy it.

I honestly think that this is another bold faced lie. The proof is in the release. After the death of Michael Jackson. What a way to cash in on someone's death, but promoting a strange weirdo to the homosexual side of the spectrum. Is Ian gay himself? You can't make the world gay and sooner or later you will prove to be a huge fraud. I won't be buying your book, you sensationalist, opportunist you.

Actually I have bought this book but I will not read it. I think this Ian guy is full of it. From what I see out there this book reads more like a tabloid. He only met Michael once so all his info is hearsay. This guy is looking to make money. I ripped all the photos out and when I go camping next week I will toss it into the fire unread as my tribute to Michael.

I am not sure about some of claims about Michael being gay, but I really appreciated the author's stance on whether Michael molested those children. I have always believed, and continue to believe, that Michael was an innocent pawn used by people much meaner and conniving than him. I have never believed any of the rumours that he molested anyone. I especially liked reading this book because the author stated he started out to prove Michael had done those things, but couldn't prove it and in fact found evidence leading towards the opposite conclusion. I thought it was an interesting book, and while it ought to be taken with a grain of salt, I am glad I read it.

Please let the soul of the dead rest in PEACE, have you no conscience at all? Think about the children, what will they think when they read these horrible lies about their beloved father. Already they are finding it difficult to come to terms to the death of their DAD.

I would like to read the book just to see what all that imbecile is saying about Michael BUT I refuse to buy it because there is no way in hell I plan on putting any money into that idiots pocket. I've seen him in several interviews (most of which he had on the most stupid looking red tinted glasses ever) and I just don't like that guy at all. It pisses me off that he has the nerve to say all this stuff about Michael, acting as though he has some kind of authority like he was an insider or something and yet he only met Michael once. If Micheal were gay I would probably think it was awesome :P I am bisexual and I am always pleased to hear about gay celebrities lol but I feel that if he were gay it would be known and if he was a cross dresser I am positive somebody, somewhere would have caught a picture of that and those pictures would be everywhere. This Ian guy is just another low life whose only claim to fame is that he made up a new story to tell the world about Michael, another lie, Ian Halperin is just another lying media whore looking for attention and hoping to fatten up his pockets in the process. People like that make me sick, he has no real talent so he has to make up lies about someone who does.

jojo 2 years ago

the book is not really about michael jackson.

it is about ian finding men dressed as a man and getting buttfuck all the time.

everyone close to michael will tell he was not gay. this is a lie and it is stupid.

LadyS 2 years ago

I read it in the bookstore. Its crap but I did like that he felt that MJ was not a molester.

marilyn 2 years ago

I have just finished reading UNMASKED. I was very disappointed. It is rambling, difficult to follow. The author citing sources he couldn't identify. Also, he claimed MJ would disguise himself to meet male friends at rundown, rat-infested hotels! WHAT? Michael Jackson? Come on! How ridiculous can you get? Don't waste your money.

Halperin uses a taped conversation of Evan Chandler, the 93 accuser's father, and omits key parts of the conversation to boost his contention the accuser's were the bad guys.

Chandler did say he obtained a lawyer who was a mean sn of a btch, and he would do anything in a mean, nasty, way for his client.

Halperin, however, strangely does not include the part where Chandler adds his contention that 'Jackson is an evil guy; he's worse than that...'.

That would not strengthen Halperin's case that these guys simply were extortionists of an innocent guy. They may have been focused on extorting Jackson, but Jackson may still be guilty of what they claimed.

Overlooking the above part of the taped conversation is a glaring weakness in credibility on Halperin's part, imo.

I think MJ is innocent, you wanna know why? My cousin spent three weeks at neverland and the lucky bastard got to sleep with MJ and four other kids in MJ's bed! I wish it could've been me but I did'nt have cancer! Anyways, Cuz said that MJ was so kind and sweet, not at all a child molester! DOWN WITH GAVEN!! DOWN WITH JORDIE!! DOWN WITH SNEDDON AND ALL THE OTHER BITCHES!!!!!!

I remember going to a bookstore and looking for MJ books, I saw only three left, Moonwalker, the other one I forgot the title, and Unmasked. Realizing the title of the book that I was holding, I dropped it in disgust. LOL.

Anyway, the guy is making a film entitled "Gone Too Soon"..Tsk tsk tsk.. Please stop the greed... Let Michael rest in peace!

MICHAEL JACKSON WAS NOT GAY !!!

Diane in Los Angeles 19 months ago

I viewed "Gone Too Soon" this weekend, and Halperin re-ensured my belief that MJ WAS NOT a child molester. However, I certainly won't be reading his trashy book on MJ from someone who only met him under a disguise.

MJ was deeply spiritual, sex was an after thought, for him. He was virtually a-sexual except for the women who he viewed as extremely beautiful, hence he was not gay.

And finally, although MJ's voice and dance moves weren't the same when he was 25, but no body else either!!
